Gartner’s 10 technology predictions for 2018 and beyond

What would be the next big thing for the technology sector in 2018? Gartner, the world’s leading research and advisory company, gives their 10 predictions about the development in the sector for the next year and beyond. The global analyst discusses what would be the next good, bad and obvious forecast for the years to come.

As a leading trend, Gartner places the visual and voice search. The company predicts that by 2021 early adopter brands that redesign their website to support the visual and voice search will increase digital commerce revenue by 30%.

According to the advisory firm, the companies, which are considered as digital giants, will self-disrupt. This will allow them to create the next leadership opportunity. The biggest in the sector such as Amazon, Apple, Google and Facebook will continue to innovate as fast as they can.

The cryptocurrencies and blockchain technologies are also in the prediction list for the next years. Gartner believes that they will be legitimized and by 2020, the banking industry will derive $1B of business value from the use of blockchain-based cryptocurrencies.

Two interesting predictions are taking the fourth and fifth place. By 2022, the majority of individuals in developed economies will consume more false than true information. This will force companies to closely monitor what is being said about their brands. Furthermore, Gartner predicts that AI-driven “counterfeit reality” will overtake the reality and it will be hardly detected which will create digital distrust.

Among the next five predictions are related to the increased usage of chatbots, the evolution of the versatile IT staff, AI will create more jobs than it will take, IoT in Everything and more IoT security vulnerabilities.
